Dialed In
Stop cranking. Get Dialed In.
Set it. Save it. Return to it.
Dialed In replaces your planer’s hand crank with a closed-loop motor and a touchscreen digital readout. Tap a saved thickness and the cutterhead drives itself there — no counting turns, no sneaking up on a pencil mark, no test cuts.
What it does
- Memory presets — save the thicknesses you actually use and return to them exactly, every time.
- Real accuracy — field-verified against calipers to within 0.05 mm of the readout.
- A readout you can read — big digits, switchable between millimeters, decimal inches, and fractions down to 1/64”.
- Self-calibrating — a touch probe and gauge block zero the system in about a minute. No tape measure, no trial passes.
- Multi-pass mode — set a final thickness, tap once per pass, and the last pass lands exactly on target.
- Built for shop hands — physical preset buttons and a glove-friendly GO button, not just a touchscreen.
Tested on the DW735, built for more
Development and testing are happening on a DeWalt DW735 — but the design isn’t locked to one machine. Adapting it to other top-crank planers is simple, and support for them will likely be part of the first offering. Own a DW734, a Makita 2012NB, a WEN or Ridgid 13”? Sign up below and say so. You’re voting on what ships first.
Where it stands
A working prototype is bolted to the planer in our shop right now, planing real boards to real numbers — and Dialed In is now on Kickstarter. Head there for the full story, or join the launch list below and we’ll keep you posted by email.
